The Warrington Golf Club is a premier members club based in North Cheshire just outside Warrington and close to the main road networks of the M56 and M6.

The Warrington Golf Club established in 1903 has been one of the  premier golf courses in north Cheshire for many years and boasts a superb 18-hole golf course set on the outskirts of Warrington and applicants are invited for the key role of Golf Course Manager. With a number of distinguished architects including Dr Alistair MacKenzie, HS Colt, Ted Ray and latterly in 1932 James Braid the course bais of the modern Warrington layout was established. Since then the course has been updated on a number of occasions and latterly has had extensive investment including the re-modelling of the bunkers including design, drainage and remodelling of the 4th hole. 

Key Responsibilities:

The Course Manager is accountable to the Club Secretary.

The key responsibilities are  maintenance of the golf course, practice areas and any other outdoor areas, ensuring the greens are kept in peak condition. This role requires effective leadership skills, good knowledge of turf management and the ability to successfully manage a team. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to develop and agree and manage the greens budget in conjunction with the Club Secretary and report on it monthly.

Greens/Course Management

  • To assist in the planning and implementation of general course maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Negotiate and commission project in conjunction with the Club Secretary and Chair of Greens.
  • Manage and report on the agreed budget.
  • Daily Liaison with the club secretary over key matters affecting the course and staff.
  • Implement and oversee all aspects of turf maintenance, including mowing, watering, fertilising, and pest/weed control.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive maintenance schedule to ensure the course is in top condition year-round.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust maintenance practices accordingly.
  • Work with the Club Secretary and Chair of the Greens committee to make sure all members and guests are kept up to date with course progress and plans.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in environmentally friendly greenkeeping techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices for equipment operation.
  • Maintain and oversee the operation of all greenkeeping equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and properly utilised.
  • To maintain a good level of admin/ record keeping for the department.

Team Management:

  • Lead, motivate, and train a team of greenkeepers to perform their duties efficiently and effectively.
  • Lead and supervise the greenkeeping team in the day to day set up of the golf course and inform members of any changes to course playability.
  • To plan and implement weekly work schedules, holidays, rota’s etc ensuring that sufficient staffing levels are maintained and scheduled work is carried out effectively.

Attributes & Experience:

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and driven to produce quality surfaces all year round with an up-to-date knowledge of modern greenkeeping techniques.

  • Previous golf course management experience or deputy role experience required.
  • PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Chainsaw qualifications would be an advantage.
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent as a minimum.
  • Irrigation knowledge and repair skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of turf management, disease identification and control.
  • Maintain a fleet of machinery alongside the mechanic.
  • Able to help develop, manage and  work within an agreed budget.
  • Have a good understanding of current Health and safety in the workplace.
  • Desire to continue to improve own knowledge and skill base.
  • Good communication skills with a passion for delivering top quality service.
  • Flexible and co-operative.
